Haisong JiangA man has been arrested after causing a major security alert at Newark Airport near New York, after breaching security in the airport terminal to kiss his girlfriend goodbye.

Haisong Jiang, 28, a Chinese- born student was arrested on Friday 8th January 2010, and charged with defiant trespass a spokesman for the Port Authority said.

The accused, Jiang, was seen on surveillance video sliding underneath a security cordon after being told by security officials to move away from the area.

He made his way under the cordon and walked over to his girlfriend; he gave the woman a kiss and walked away with her to the boarding area of the terminal.

The authorities had to search the city to locate Mr Jiang after he managed to leave the airport, he was found, arrested and will now just face a fine for his breach of security, up to $500.

The breach took place only a few hours after tougher screening rules for airline passengers was introduced because of the attempted bombing on Christmas Day.

The Senator of New Jersey, Frank Lautenberg, has made his anger over the situation known;

“It wasn’t some prank that didn’t do any harm – it did a lot of harm because it sent out an alert that people can get away with something like this,” he said.

His intentions may have been that of romance, however anyone of a certain age should know in this day and age that this is totally unacceptable. Haisong Jiang is reportedly studying for a doctoral degree in molecular biosciences at Rutgers University. While this offence will be treated with a very low and almost laughable fine, one has to wonder what the penalty would have been for him doing this back in China.

It also should be said that how did he slip by security so easily? Those on duty at the time should be called to answer.
